'Secret Getaway' Equine Watercolor by Debbie Flood
This is one of my latest Watercolors. Secret getaway. You know, when I had horses growing up, I was always making a get away on my pony or horse. Such a wonderful feeling to jump on and go. It takes one to another place and time of imagination and stresses just melt away.
For me, now, I don't have the horse to jump on to 'getaway'. I probably couldn't jump on one now, if my life depended on it! But what does take me away, is creating works like this in my studio. The light in this bounces all around, the colors are bold, and the horse is sculpted in the paint. It takes me away every time I look at it.
Secret getaway is 11 x 13 inches and being offered for $1,200.00.

If I Only Had A Brain, Watercolor for the Straw Hat Series by Debbie Flood
I finished If I only had a brain. 16 x 15 Watercolor, $1,200.00. This painting was painted for the Straw Hat Series.
This well pump came from my grandmother, and now my brother has it, and the hat belongs to my father.
Keeping it 'all in the family'.
This poor hat....there he sits...on such a deep subject (The Well), and no brain inside of him to be able to think such deep thoughts! He's in quite a predicament! It doesn't look like he's going to acquire a brain anytime soon either. Out in the vastness of nowhere...sitting on such a deep subject.
The Straw Hat series started with my father's hat and him and my youngest boy playing with it. From the 1st painting I did, of my father, in the watercolor titled: Contented, I soon realized that I wanted to do a series and put the placement of human conditions and emotions to the hat. It soon became, not about the people who might be wearing the hats, but about the conditions we are able to place upon objects that are not alive, but we still have empathy for. It's about the emotions and thoughts that humans harbor. Being able to bring those emotions through, in an object that isn't living, in a painting, is the challenge! Will you, the viewer, feel these things when viewing the painting? Will you know how the hat feels? Will you even notice? And the real question,: Do you or I notice in real life, when it is a human that has these feelings? How often do we over look what is really going on in someone's life?
These are just a few things that my Straw Hat Series is teaching me, and I hope to open the eyes of others to these things as well.

Rumbles in the Sky Western Watercolor by Debbie Flood
This is my latest Watercolor painting, Rumbles in the sky. This painting is 22 x 29 inches on 300lb Arches Watercolor Paper. $2,500.00 Inquiries to purchase may come to my email, debflood@debfloodart.com Thank you.
This painting went relatively easy, to my surprise. I have never painted this large in watercolor before. But given the subject matter and what I wanted to say in the painting, it needed to be painted large. I photographed the subject at a Barrel Racing event. It was mid morning and the morning light was illuminating her braid, hat and the horse, bouncing light around on the white markings of the Paint Horse. In order to show these elements, it just had to be a large image.
If you would like to see this work evolve as a work in progress, you can view all the entries on my Blog at http://debbieflood.blogspot.com All my studio updates, news and recent works & exhibits are posted there.

Knot listening, A Watercolor from the Straw Hat Series by Debbie Flood, And Hello!
I want to introduce myself, and say thank you to Contemporary Fine Art International for jurying me into their Membership as a Professional Member! I am Debbie Flood, a Maine based artist exploring the emotional connection of horses and man/woman. This has been an ever elusive topic that I will never tire of, trying to figure out what the connection is!
I also branch out into other areas of most interest to me, such as the Past of my City, Belfast [Maine]. I have a Series of watercolors going on, titled "Belfast's past". This is a fun project, digging around in the Historical Museum in Belfast, Maine, finding more about myself, ancestors and the way of life back in the early 1900's. I also donate a % to the Museum from sales of the original paintings and Limited Edition Giclee Prints.
Another series in Watercolor that I am working on is the "Straw Hat Series". Now this is really fun! It all started with my father's straw hat, when he and my son were playing around with it. I did up a few paintings of them, and realized that the human emotions and conditions can be applied to the hats and the humans in the art were just the 'props'. So I am exploring now, emotions and thoughts that we have, only applying them to the hats. Bringing the hats to life, so to speak. The painting pictured above is the latest watercolor for this series. It is titled Knot listening.
I hope that you will enjoy my postings and the journey that I am on with my art.
For more info and images of these series and other art that I create, you can find on my website http://www.debfloodart.com
Thank you for reading and enjoying my creations,
Debbie Flood
