Nature Fine Art Painting, Insect "RUDDY DAGGERWING BUTTERFLY" The Art of Nature, Fine Art by Mindy Lighthipe

The Ruddy Daggerwing, Marpesia petreus, has hooked fore wing tips and hind wing tails that are often attacked by predators. If attacked the tips and tails fall off, protecting the vital parts. The caterpillars thrive on fig leaves such as the Strangler Fig, in the Ficus family.
