Bougainvillea 'Barbara Karst' Paper Flower, Original plein air watercolor by Rhoda Sterling

As I painted the Paper Flowers an admirer stopped by. He got the point of my impressionist painting. "You capture the essence of these flowers." Semi-tropical Bougainvillea from Brazil radiates color year-round from leaf-like bracts. The actual blossoms are tiny and white, but the overall effect is stunningly hot pink.
